Biographical Sketch of
Prof. Kechang Xie, the President of Taiyuan University of Technology
Professor Kechang Xie, born in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, in 1946, is a specialist in Coal Chemical Engineering. Having received his Bachelor’s degree from Tianjin University in 1968, he graduated from the Research Academy of Taiyuan University of Technology later in 1981. In 1999, he received his Ph.D. from Shinshu University in Japan.
Professor Xie is a pioneer in the field of Coal Chemical Engineering. From 1983 to 1985, he was the visiting scholar at the University of South Carolina in the United States. Since 1995, he has been President of the Taiyuan University of Technology, and is currently Director of the Key Laboratory of Coal Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Member of the Standing Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Vice-Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology.
As the forerunner of Coal Chemical Engineering, Professor Xie was consecutively selected twice as the Chief Scientist for the national “973 Project” on coal pyrolysis, gasification and application of polygeneration. With his great contributions in the field, he has won two National Awards for Science and Technology. He has obtained 62 patents on his inventions and published 500 papers and 4 academic works. To commend him for his great contributions to Coal Chemical Engineering, he was elected Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2003 and selected the Distinguished Chinese Visiting Scholar in The Hongkong Polytechnic University in 2007 and was the award winner for scientific and technological progress of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation in 2008. |
